Week of Eggs: Part 1

Happy Palm Sunday! It was weird to go to church this morning and not have Meg Herman tickling my ear with the tip of her palm frond in the coffee hour afterwards - I guess it's not a tradition at our church here in Marburg. However, we are preparing for Easter next week in other ways. And so is the rest of Germany!

Marburg is awash in daffodils, forsythia that's just starting to bloom, and colored eggs. Today Marburg shops were open on Sunday afternoon with a "Spring in Marburg" theme, street musicians clattered through the streets, rain drizzled, and we huddled with friends in a cafe sipping hot chocolate, eating torte, and bidding farewell to our friend, Kirsten, who's off to begin her teaching career at the University of Göttingen. She is an old and dear friend who's presence will be missed!Yesterday we made our way to a tiny little village in the middle of nowhere: Mardorf. Stefan's mother had been to this exhibit years ago and really wanted to go again, so off we went. It took some finding, but what was inside was really amazing! Over the course of the week, leading up to Easter Sunday, I'll be sharing a few pictures each day of the things we saw. Here you see some of the older women who were there, wearing old traditional holiday dress.
