crazies

Every now and then, no matter where in the world you are, you get to see some crazies. Exhibit A is the crazies in the Marburg Fasching parade that we saw earlier this week. It has to do with Karnival and the same type of stuff that goes on in New Orleans for Mardi Gras/Fat Tuesday every year (basically a bash before Lent starts). Marburg was nothing compared to a New Orleans Mardi Gras, but then Marburg's not really part of the major Karnival section of Germany. I've heard it gets pretty wild down in the Rhine area.


































So yes, lots of flashy and not so flashy stuff going on. We had the bands, the floats with mega-watt speakers, a mini-Mini with pompadour, the local nightclub showing their objections to the new no-public-smoking ban here in our state with a giant smoking joint on their float, and we even had local punks standing on their own cases of beer to get a better view - how German, that and public drinking. Most of the floats were full of people tossing small candies to the waiting children in the crowds - the children were picking them up as fast as they could. Of course, the final set of floats in the parade weren't floats, they were the big orange street cleaning trucks from the city. Germans like to promptly clean up as soon as they make a mess! That made me laugh.

Exhibit B are the crazies we loved to visit with when we were out in Boston. On New Year's day we went out to dinner with dear friends Emily and Jason along with their two kids Elijah and Elsa. Definitely cute, definitely high energy that night, definitely glad we got to see them! We love these guys.
