Curtains...it's a process

Big cheers for the curtains we were able to hang in our bedroom this past weekend! It's a really bright room which is great since my desk is there by the window, but it can also be a bad thing when you want to sleep past 5am. I think it really adds to the whole my-bedroom-looks-like-a-hotel-room thing, especially since we actually do need to get those plastic wands to help open and close the curtains....ha, but I do like the color. When the sunlight comes through it makes the whole bedroom feel like it's under a big green leaf with sunlight filtering through.

Here is the process to date:
Step 1: wash curtains in our little washer (we are so thankful to A&D for gifting it to us when they moved overseas to the US!! no clue how we'd afford one right off the bat otherwise) 2 heavy curtain panels just fit nicely. (yes, it's way smaller than a typical american one, but like most 'large' appliances here in Europe, this guy fits in with the small theme)

Step 2: dry the curtains. We have no dryer and likely no hopes of ever obtaining one, so we air dry on racks. However, a 3 meter long panel (that's 9.84 feet of fabric to you Americans) is waaaay too long for the drying racks, so we hung them on a curtain rod we had up. Here you see the last of 10 panels drying, these will end up in the office.
Step 3: Get them hemmed to the appropriate length. Thanks Valentina! Our living room curtains should be ready by the end of this week - hooray! Our other super-bright room is in desperate need of drapes since whoever sits on the couch is usually blinded. (btw, this is Joanna, Valentina's daughter, earlier blogged, but she's a part of this story too)
Step 4: Kill our fingers putting these little things together to hook onto the curtains and slide in the track. Yes, more Ikea parts.
Step 5: Leave the room while Stefan balances precariously on the stepladder and talks to himself, mainly about how he hates curtains and so on.....ahem.

Step 6: Congratulate ourselves on getting through the process and look forward to sleeping in a little more.
