online at home! (kind of)

One of the people upstairs here in our building has wireless and for 5 euro/month we can use his wireless. YAY! no more smokey/hot internet cafes!!! We still need to wait for our own DSL to be set up to get our Vonage phone working, but this is a step in the right direction. A lot cheaper too!

Some of you are wondering WHY must it take so long to get DSL going, and the fabulous answer is: monopoly..... That's right. There is a monopoly on the phone/cables here in Germany. Everything has to go through Telecom, which as far as I can tell sounds suspiciously like a former government owned company that all phone/tv/internt companies must still go through to get service switched on. Doesn't really make sense to me why these companies can't just turn it on themselves, or at least have a choice of what ultimate provider to go through, but oh well. Apparently Telecom is backlogged (of course) and we must wait. So thank goodness for the upstairs neighbor!!!
