Busy Sunday.....2 church services and a several hour walk! We went to the German service, which was a blur to me. Stefan says there are lots of new faces. Then we went for a loooooong walk all over the city - lots of fun places to explore. I cannot WAIT to get a bike to use on all the neat bike paths, etc.
Last night we went to the English service and that was really great. I think it's funny that it's mainly comprised of english-loving Germans! We saw lots of familiar faces there - I was particularly pleased to see our friends Samuel and his girlfriend, Johanna. She's in medical school here and she loves to speak in english (she lived in Toronto for a while). She's a person I've enjoyed meeting during our past visits and I look forward to our dinner with them on Thursday. There's a Thursday night service we'll go to together later that evening.
Yes, lots of church! We're going to everything for now to observe and see where we can fit best. Certainly the English service. In fact, they are having their leadership retreat this weekend and asked us to join them. We will be joining them for the full day on Saturday. Stefan's school collegue and her husband were also there last night and will be there this weekend - we look forward to getting to know them better. We also had a nice chat with Erica, an American chemistry professor who used to live here and is now doing a research summer here with a few of her students. She told me about a place in town to get some American treats. nice!
Good news: an old friend of Stefan's gave us the contact info for another mechanic who is trusted by students here in Marburg. He's 3-4 villages away, so that complicates things, but he sounds reliable and we're going to get a second opinion there. We know we need to get one thing fixed before we drive this weekend, so hopefully he can do it at a lower price.
Tonight we are going to scout out the local gym and see what we think, tomorrow night we meet with our new landlord, and I think we have something Wednesday, and the rest of the week is booked too. Kinda nuts that we're already so busy, but it's the getting started stuff still. Once we move in to the apt in July things should settle down...
That said, Tuesday morning I start Deutsch class! eek!
