Not cool

Just a word to please up the prayers on our departure from this apartment. We knew our landlord would be unhappy when we gave our notice, and when we first talked to him after he received our written notice he was predictably whiny. However, today's exchange was just rude and Stefan is really upset with him. I'm not too pleased either. He's accusing us of promising to stay for 3 years, which we never said (and never would, why?!).

He was also upset with being sent people who want to take the apartment - we knew he wouldn't be excited about 3 girls, but they are long-term which is important to him, so we thought it was a valid enough reason. He also informed us today he doesn't want a young married couple. He seems to want an older couple, but those people would never take this place for many reasons, which he won't believe. We don't know what he really wants, other than to be mean and rude on the telephone. Maybe a deaf, celibate monk would be the perfect fit. Able to do the yardwork, gracious enough to put up with the landlord, and deaf to not hear everything.

We see this getting worse, with him nickle and diming made up things from our security deposit, refusing all potential Nachmieters, which he pretty much said he'd do today on the phone, etc. We have been under the impression that by law he has to take the 3rd realistically acceptable Nachmieter (and we're only sending realistic people his way anyhow) but it looks like this will involve a lawyer to document/prove and get expensive. Stefan feels like just paying for our last month and taking it easy moving out of here. I would like to not have to pay another 600+ for July. I also just want to get out of here even faster now!

I'm just super disappointed with how ugly this man was on the phone today. It will only get worse with him, he's a real cheapskate. It's really hard to have a Christian attitude faced with this sort of thing. Looks like we'll need a lot of perseverence and grace on this end of the move as well!

After those legal lectures at university, I'm pretty sure you cannot be made to pay the last month if there are people interested in the apartment. I have to look it up again, but I know he has to have very solid reasons to refuse applicants.

where's Rambo when you need him?

by the way, what kills me is that he has certain criteria in mind for Nachmieter. If that is the case, why don't people just be responsible owners and find them themselves....like the rest of the world. Sheesh.

Andrew: because if there's no Nachmieter he still gets rent for July, even if we're already in the new place - he gets July rent from us! He had the nerve to ask us if there was anything in the apt we thought he should renovate to incite good renters...right, so many things we told him about and he refused to care for. Several people who've looked at the place actually have asked us "so...why is it so expensive?" Since now we have to up the price 40 euro since he refuses to rent it to anybody who doesn't also want to rent the extra garage. blah.

I actually took down the flyer we posted at CT b/c I couldn't in good conscience recommend this place after our recent dealings with the landlord. After July we are done dealing with him though!
