Seriously, for all the complaining we've done about this car....I cannot BELIEVE we have this kind of hot interest in potential buyers. Get this:
1) The lock on the driver's side has been busted. The cool mechanic in an out-of-the-way village agrees to fix it for only 35 euro. And since he has to come into Marburg for parts anyhow, he'll just pick it up at our door, drive it to get the parts and bring it back all fixed up. Seriously. I think that's the best deal I've had so far here in Germany - on anything. And he's a nice guy to boot. He must be related to my guys at the Autohaus back in Salem, MA.
2) Buyer #1 calls Stefan as he's walking back from school. He says, oh, you're here in town? Can I come by in 10 minutes? Sure. So he comes and loves it. Wants to buy it for his daughter. We tell him we have another buyer coming this evening at 5:30pm and he says if you don't sell it to buyer #2 then call me later tonight.
3) Buyer #3 comes into the picture making a frantic-sounding phone call to Stefan. Says he's 3hrs north of us by Hanover. Says he's desperate for a car and once he heard Stefan was a teacher, instantly trusted him. Says to please email more detailed interior shots and if he likes them, he'll jump in the car, grab his girlfriend, and he'll pay the 2,000 euros we're asking to guarantee he gets it. ** I frantically email a million huge pictures to him - asking price would be great, we could sure use the money! But is the dude for real??? ** He calls Stefan back 5 min. later and says it's a go, he's already in his car and on his way to get his girlfriend. Says he's been looking forever for a car and can't get one fast enough.
4) Meanwhile we wonder about how to handle Buyer #2 who's supposed to come at 5:30pm today. Stefan calls her and tells her he has a verbal guarantee from Buyer #3 to pay the asking price and that he will sell the car to him (since he's on his way we're trusting him), however, if the dude doesn't follow through on the deal, then we'll call her first.
At this point Buyer #2 is totally upset. She says we are being fair, but she's so frustrated b/c she's been looking for a car for the last 4 months and they keep getting sold out from under her and she has all the cash right there on her kitchen table. She said her boyfriend came by earlier to look at the car, but since it wasn't in front of the house, didn't bother ringing our bell to ask us about it.
I'm SERIOUS! I think we should call all three buyers and tell them to show up at 6pm and duke it out. That'd be fun and we'd charge admission from the neighbors. We'll take whoever has the most cash on them. Honestly, you'd think we were auctioning the Mona Lisa at Christie's. Jiminy cricket people! Heck, and here I've been thinking Stefan had some pie-in-the-sky dream with this 2,000 starting price! It's a 1994 VW Golf people....you know there are a LOT of them here in Germany.... we'll keep you posted.

Funny. We finally sold our Golf yesterday! Got 700 dollars for it. Some kid bought it and promised to put huge tires under it and a huge stereo in the back. I felt sorry for the poor vehicle. The Finnish flag and the GCTS sticker just seemed so out of place when he drove away.
The idea of a Grohn vehicle pimped out is really funny!! well, unless you count pimping it out in Scandinavian modern, then it would look Karoliina-ish! -- but the big wheels....so funny!
