There are lots of castles around us, but one in particular is a favorite spot for dinners out. Burg Gleiberg was my dad's request when he came breezing through on a business trip and Frank's request last weekend when he came for a visit. We also celebrated Frank's birthday a little early and I made a pumpkin spice cake that went over really well. (recipe here)
Sadly I didn't have my camera on the proper setting, so everything's a tad washed out, but you get the idea. Opposite Burg Gleiberg is another little castle; just a small tower remains as you can see, but it's fun to think of knights and nobles back in the middle ages climbing these hills.
In fact, we did see two little knights scurrying around! They were of the shorter, younger variety, and their swords and armor were probably a lot lighter than the originals! There was also a wedding reception going on and another time we saw a Turkish music video being filmed.
All in all, it was a nice day out with the fam. Stefan has two weeks of fall vacation coming up, so we've planned on driving down to Oberbayern (Bavarian Alps) to visit Frank. We haven't been down there in a long while, so it will be good to catch some fall colors in the foothills of the Alps!
We also prepped our balcony for winter. Yay for winterhart (winter proof) balcony plants! We also planted bulbs in the boxes, too. Those will certainly be cheery come February!
